  • Her Majesty's Agricultural Inspectorate, Health and Safety Executive and the Douglas Bomford Trust Travel scholarship to study farming methods and closed transfer of pesticides, based at the University of California, Davis, 1989
  • European Commission PHARE ACE scholarship to visit the University of Rousse and tour farms in Bulgaria, October 1994
