In some professional degree programs, responsibilities for gathering applications and notifying applicants of actions have been delegated to the college that offers the professional program. The Master of Engineering program is one of these, and applications are available through these offices:

Applications for graduate study in the Field of Biological and Environmental Engineering are considered throughout the year. Admission decisions can be made up to the cutoff date established by the Graduate school, a date dictated by the time required to process necessary paperwork. For United States residents, the cutoff date is two weeks before the beginning of the semester. For international applicants, the date is three months prior to the beginning of the semester for which admission is requested. This permits time for processing visas and other official paperwork. Although students can be admitted at any time during the year, most begin their studies in late August for the Fall Semester or late January for the Spring Semester.

Admission to the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy programs (the M.S./Ph.D. option) may be requested together at the time of applying for entry at the master's level. However, admission into this option is generally approved only for those students with an exceptionally strong undergraduate record, and a highly focused direction in graduate education. Admission to the M.S./Ph.D. program is not immediate admission to doctoral study from a bachelor's degree, but is instead a guarantee of continuing to doctoral study after successfully completing a master's program and thesis. Those who enter the Master of Science program (only) may petition, when approaching the end of their master's work, to advance to doctoral study after completing their master's thesis.
